State Laughter

To call this prog is misleading...regardless of whether "Prog is Not a 4 Letter Word" esque comps are being released, the genre will always be branded with offensive noodletry and PG fantasy world imagery. I want the terrifying space landings of Heldon....the torture chamber vibes of Univers Zero....or the Lysergic cloud trip that is this LP. It doesn't hurt having Musica Electronic Viva founding member Alvin Curran gracing the albums sonic textures, as well as Steve Lacy playing sax. Rick Wakeman eat your heart out. I feel like Caetano Veloso would play along to this album in a hammock, Nico drinking summer cocktails...playing darts with syringes on Italian holiday. Interesting textural vibes like (but different) Franco Battiato...pop/folk steeped in the av*nt garde. If it wasn't for her voice and the players maybe it would just be another folk album from the 70's....but the stars were aligned.
