Description

Vinyl debut from these unique New Zealanders... Was first turned on to them by my friend Michael's scene report of current bands from Auckland and all over NZ. In some ways this is very NZ to me, but not in the Flying Nun sense...not even Dead C or Handful of Dust...It does represent a sense of isolation that enjoy in most music form New Zealand and Australia...A stone at the bottom of the well. I like to use clusters of fragmented thought to describe music to people...I hate keywords, hype words, "post" "proto"...What does post-punk even mean anymore? To call this goth is a copout...There is the twang of death, I feel as if the all the water in the swamp has evaporated...The pit of dust has calcified into stone...and now these miscreants hobble on plucking, plodding through an atonal skeleton of a bulldozer. Yes its dark, the lights have been out for awhile....but on to something more concrete...This is a 33 rpm 2 song 7"... The a-side is about 5 minutes and the b-side even longer...Not for those with short attention spans...A 500 ft worm totally unwound and wriggling around in dirt. Detuned twang.....ritualistic and esoteric, but not in a Ouija board, black lipstick sense of pretension... Seriously dark music for those that embrace the pain of being human and not asking to be. I can see Victor Dimisch Band as a great grandfather or another of Stephen Cogle's numerous downer escapades. Almost a sense of slowly being poisoned listening to this. There is a great video for Nine of Swords on youtube that really sums up the song really well i feel like. Well now I've said it all and really nothing....but hopefully this gives you an idea of where this brooding single is headed. Now that the stream of conscious cumshot has landed...fans of goth, dark music, maybe a slower, less post punk, NZ Rule of Thirds for a contemporary might give you a glimpse. Take a listen here!:
