When a band Bryan Scherer plays actually releases something its a blessing. Not just because he starts a new band every other week that writes 5 great songs and then never plays a show let alone practices again, but he's also just a great songwriter. While keeping an identity all to his own, his playing is malleable and came seep in unnoticed into whatever manifestation he chooses. Warm Red is of the U-J3RK5/non New York "no wave" camp. Ben Wallers esque one note picking, but still with the faint aggression of Nurse. Tony's vocals really solidify the band as unique to their contemporaries. Teenage locker room huffer on expired helium. And the more i listen to the lyrics, the more i enjoy the sonically somewhat juvenile approach. It's a cloak and Tony is actually a savant playing a teenager on tv. "The Way Felt Feels" is a title i keep coming back to and thinking about. All of this would also be worthless without the well wounded coil that is the battery (semantically and physically). Drums and bass fill in the spacious gaps provided by their vocal/guitar cosmonauts counterparts. Tape is dubbed with the same program on each side...and you're supposed to let it run for at least a week at a time in your car. Stoked to be back on the map with another State Laughter release (next one comes out next week). Atlanta has a whole new class of disturbed youth that will soon be ready to display their wares, so keep peeling your eyes.
