Description
One of the few records/artists I've been turned on to from a promo copy I received (Thanks Secretly Dist.). Artists like Mark always intrigue me....by that i mean you can slap whatever faint artists comparison you want on a hype sticker, but some are better left to the ear and not the eye. "Rust-belt Brian Eno", Cocteau Twins, and Durutti Column are all given mention. I mean what non mainstream music (rock or sound based) isn't influenced by Eno? Maybe Durutti Column in the sense of clean guitar ambiance, which is also probably what draws me to both artists. Rust belt is a fair assessment though as this is clearly American. Autumnal. Music for looking thru glass. Car exhaust and foggy breath intertwined. Guitar for me is an obsession. Such a pervasive instrument, yet camouflaged and manipulated in unobvious places. Their is so much kinetic potential inside of a guitar. Renner's playing is like a slowed down, micro dosed orgasm. It was what I've tried to do with my own art. Moving in parallel tubes, opaque, until we merge together. Beautiful and massive. If i wasn't clear, I really enjoy this.
