Description

New LP by the master of holding a mirror up to decay. I shared a sentiment with Adam about it being odd as being described as futuristic (or some descriptor along these lines). Adam's photography freezes these moments that are in the public sector, but are otherwise by default private in the sense that their visual mundanity renders them invisible to the common passerby. They are then brought into visibility again thru his captures. Crumpled fast food wrappers, mannequin heads, abandoned clothing. There is something very human to the objects that are the focus of his work. Flaking dander somehow animated by its creators. While Cube originally was a sort of sonic equivalent of this idea of animated objects, the music he has created has increasingly come alive. Lo-fi magma into chiseled stone. With each album the sounds have become more structured, more anchored. Whereas the voice previously was a slowed down cassette player, the objects have now become fully animated and the voice is now human.

In all the years ive known and seen him play, I've always wanted to see Cube in a rave setting. I missed raving in the 90's because I was into punk and too cool for electronic music. While I'm mostly too old to want to stay up til 4 am, especially in a club with a bunch of people...this is the kind of music I want to rave too. Or the music I want to observe people raving too. Vouyerism is another vibe I get from the visual component of Adam's work....but once again...vouyerism...something private, but in the case of his photography...this private thing done in a very public sphere. There are these loops that go in one world and out into the other. Even down to the project name. Cube....Cubicle...a private space, but one that is being monitered. Each song is a unit, and short film, a glimpse into a cluster of rooms all done up with one way mirrors. Everyone watching everyone else, while assuming they are going unnoticed.

Sonically the melodies are there more than ever. The rhythms are stronger...even getting into jungle territory at times. A new day in the cube. A new set of finite actions for us to experience together/alone.
